Behavior and Academic communication and support for all students...

Families--

We heard from several families at Parent-Teacher Conferences that you wanted more information about your child's behaviors and academic standing so that you can work with them as small problems arise so that big issues can potentially be avoided.  We want to ensure you have this communication in a consistent and timely manner..

Here are two things for you to know:

1) ThinkTime:  All teachers use the ThinkTime process to give students a chance to regulate and reflect when disruptions and/or defiance occurs inside the classroom.  If assigned a ThinkTime, the student would leave class, meet with a SafeKeeper (Security) at a pre-determined and consistent location and go through the ThinkTime Process.  All staff use the same questions and process with each student.  Students are typically out of class for less than 5 minutes reviewing receiving this support from a staff member.  Upon returning to class, the student meets with the classroom teacher at the classroom door to review the ThinkTime Form and restore any relationship that needs to be restored.  NEW! Beginning tomorrow, TUESDAY 11/19, if your child has a ThinkTime, they will bring home this yellow form with information about the incident, time, and staff involved.  Students will learn about this change at our Grade-Level Assemblies tomorrow morning. These yellow papers will be located in the student's binder.  


2) Weekly Grade Check Form: Every Thursday, during Homeroom, each student completes a Grade Check Form. This 2-sided paper, helps students learn to monitor their grades and to work toward resolving any learning or record keeping issues with the specific teacher. Our goal is to have students learn and consistently use this monitoring of grades to advocate for themselves and their learning now and in High School. The weekly Grade Check Form is located in your students' binder for you to review with them Thursday night or as needed.
