End of 3rd Quarter Newsletter

Families,
We’ve officially wrapped up the 3rd quarter, and we continue to see students working hard to gain new skills and knowledge. As we look ahead to the final quarter of the school year we want to keep you informed and involved in all the important events and expectations.

This week all students have begun a review of our school-wide academic and behavioral expectations. This review is to support students as we finish the year supporting all students to meet our high expectations.

Below you’ll find key updates as we move toward the end of the school year.

Modified Bell Schedule for Testing

End of year assessments (iReady and SBA)

These assessments help us measure academic progress and provide valuable information about your students' learning. Please avoid scheduling appointments during testing days if possible. We have been supporting our students at school and we appreciate your support at home to help them feel confident and prepared.

Testing takes place on Tuesday & Thursday Mornings
Our final iReady assessments of the year will take place on:
  • Tuesday, April 15th
  • Thursday, April 17th

Our SBA (State) assessments will take place:
  • May 6th: ELA CAT (Grades 6-8)

  • May 9th: ELA Makeup Tests and Additional Time
  • May 13th: Math CAT (Grades 6-8)
  • May 15th: Math PT (Grades 6-8)
  • May 16th: Math Makeup Tests and Additional Time
  • May 20th: WCAS (Grade 8)
  • May 22nd: WCAS Makeup Tests (Grade 8)

  • Arrive on time
  • Are well-rested the night before
  • Eat breakfast (free breakfast is available daily at school)
Career Fair at Mountain View Middle School Wednesday April 16th.

Students will be learning about different career options directly from citizens of Bremerton. Each student will have 4 different career presentations that they selected based on their interest.

Wednesday night, please talk with your child about what they learned and what their interests may be after high school graduation.

Important Reminders

As we move into the spring season, we want to share some important reminders regarding our student dress code and expectations around public displays of affection (PDA) on campus. These guidelines are in place to help maintain a safe, respectful, and disruption-free learning environment for all students.

Public Displays of Affection (PDA)
Middle school is a time when students are developing socially and emotionally, and it’s normal for friendships and relationships to become more important. However, school is a place for learning, and we strive to maintain an environment where everyone feels comfortable and respected.
The following behaviors are not allowed on campus, even with mutual consent from both individuals:
  • Kissing
  • Caressing, groping, or grabbing another person's body parts
  • Sitting on laps
  • Other close or intimate physical contact
We remind students regularly of these expectations and ask families to reinforce these boundaries at home. If students engage in PDA, staff will provide verbal reminders, and continued behavior may result in parent contact and/or further consequences, if needed.

Student Dress Code – General Guidelines
Our goal is not to police students’ clothing but to ensure that what is worn does not cause a material or substantial disruption of the educational process. Students' clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities. All clothing must cover the buttocks, chest, and groin areas.

Students may wear items in the following non-exhaustive list, so long as these items do not cause a material or substantial disruption of the educational process as outlined below:

  • All students must be easily identifiable by school personnel and cameras.
  • Hats, hoodies, and religious or cultural headwear so long as the face is visible to school staff and cameras.
  • Tank tops, including spaghetti straps, strapless shirts and dresses.
  • Shorts, pants, dresses, and skirts that cover chest, buttocks, groin, and undergarments.

If the student’s dress is objectionable under the above provisions, the School Administrators shall request the student to make appropriate corrections. If the student refuses, the School Administrators shall notify the parent, if reasonably possible and shall take appropriate disciplinary action, if needed.

We encourage families to do a quick check with their students in the morning to ensure their outfit aligns with these guidelines. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Mandatory Afterschool Study Hall

Beginning April 22nd, we will have a scheduled Mandatory Afterschool Study Hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-3:30. Mandatory Study Hall is a time for selected students to complete classwork that they have missed due to having 5+ ThinkTimes in the Quarter, skipping Lunch Detention, or have been skipping specific classes. Parents will be notified if their student is scheduled for Mandatory Afterschool Study Hall. Parents can choose to pick the student up at 3:30, or if the student is riding the Activity Bus, the study will be required to stay in Mandatory Study Hall until 4:00. A Classroom Teacher(s) will be supervising Mandatory Study Hall to also support students if they need academic support to complete the assignments they have missed due to being out of class due to their behavior(s).
