Important information for our incoming sixth grade families

Dear future Mountain View families, 

As this school year draws to a close, we are looking forward to welcoming your family and student to our learning community in the fall. We understand that the transition to middle school is a significant one, and we are committed to supporting all of our students and families in this process.

We want to share some of the activities we have planned to help students and families prepare for this exciting transition:

• 5th Grade Visit Day:  Each 5th grader will have a Field Trip to visit Mountain View. Students will travel by bus from their elementary schools with their teachers to MVMS where they will participate in a series of activities and a school tour. Students will enjoy lunch at Mountain View before returning to their home schools. 

  • On Thursday May 29th the students from West Hills, Armin Jahr, and Crownhill will come to MVMS

  • On  Tuesday June 3rd, the students from Kitsap Lake, Naval Avenue and View Ridge will visit MVMS.  

  • You have likely already received information and permission slips from your child's current 5th grade teacher... please let them know if you have not received information yet. 

• 6th Grade T-Shirts:  On the day of their 5th grade Field Trip to MVMS, your child will receive a MVMS T-shirt, free of charge.  This is our way to welcome them to the MVMS Learning Community. 

• AVID Parent Night:  We had over 160 students apply to be in the AVID program.  Students who are selected to be in the AVID program in 6th grade will be notified by the end of this week.  Those families are invited to an AVID Parent Night on Tuesday May 27th from 6-6:45pm.

• Dual Language Parent Night:  The Dual Language Program is continuing in 6th grade next year.  Families of students in the Dual Language Program are invited to learn about the 6th grade program by attending a Dual Language Parent Night on Thursday May 29th from 6-6:45pm.  

• All Family Meet & Greet: We are hosting a Family Meet & Greet on June 3rd from 6-7 p.m.. This informal event provides an opportunity for families to walk through a typical student schedule, visit classrooms, and meet staff. There will not be a formal presentation and you can come at any time during the event. 
  

• Sixth grade W.E.B orientation: All incoming sixth grade students will be able to participate in a W.E.B (Where Everyone Belongs) orientation led by MVMS staff and 8th grade WEB Leaders.   Tuesday, September 2nd from 9:00-1:30pm at Mountain View. 

• Class Schedules:  Class schedules will be posted in Skyward in late August. Printed schedules will be available at sixth grade orientation on Tuesday September 2nd and on the first day of school.

• MVMS Open House:  Tuesday, September 2nd from 4-6:00pm.  Students and families will be able to get their class schedule, meet their teachers and tour the school building.
